Christmas is just a little over a month away now, and the first hints of it are starting to pop up now. I'm not talking about the department stores, but the few and far between houses with lights up for example. Now I know that some people think Christmas lights are a waste of energy, and while I'm not against conservation, I think the lights are worth it. I find it quite sad that every year there seems to be less and less people decorating their homes. I still remember when I was young, most houses had some quantity of lights up, even if just a few strands around a tree or around the edges of the roof. It really helps bring a little beauty and warm feelings into a dark and cold time of the year. I guess I'm just sentimental at heart, but even the appearance of the holiday drinks again at Starbuck's helps get me in the spirit, even though I can take or leave chocolate for example any other time of year. yes, even some foods seem to be inherently festive. I for one could not do without my sherry this time of year. As I write this, I have just finished digging out my christmas music cassettes and CD's , which I will listen to while I write some cards in the very near future. In case you're wondering what I prefer;
There are a lot of others, but too many to list here. As far as television, I still enjoy the old classics including Sound of Music, although I never really understood what it has to do with Christmas. I really miss those John Denver specials (I hope he heard that). We don't get much snow around here (the west coast of Canada), but it sure makes me feel like sipping my Sherry or peppermint mocha and listening to these songs. drop me a line and et me know what makes you feel all warm and fuzzy this time of year.
- Bony M - this stuff never gets old.
- Smurf Christmas - Don't ask
- Christmas through your eyes - Gloris Estefan - Really brings back the childhood wonder
- Have yourself a merry little Christmas - Karen Carpenter - Angelic voice
